Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of program is this?

This program is focused on facilitating formal mentorship relationships between credit union employees across Manitoba and creating opportunities for selected mentees to connect with mentors successfully.

What will be the benefit of this program?

This program will strengthen and build connections, deepen professional networks, develop leadership skills, and encourage sharing of knowledge and experiences.

Who are the mentors?

All mentors are leaders in the Manitoba credit union system; many of whom have previously served on the CUYLM Executive Team.

Can I choose my own mentor?

No, but upon reviewing the mentee’s application, the CUYLM Executive Team will use the mentee’s preferred development areas to best match with a mentor’s areas of expertise.

How will the mentorship program be conducted?

Selected mentees will be connected to their mentors via an introduction email. Each pair will be provided with resources and guidelines for the relationship, along with a mentorship agreement that will indicate their meeting format and frequency. The mentorship program is mentee-driven, so mentees are encouraged to use the provided resources to develop and follow their action plan.

Do I get any certificate or testimonial after completing this program?

CUYLM will not issue any certificate but will provide a gift upon the completion and final survey of the program.

How long the program will be?

The program will last between six and nine months.

Do I have to make a commitment to complete this program?

Yes, because mentees are carefully selected out of many applications, and mentors volunteer their time and expertise despite their busy schedules.

What can I do if I wish to change my mentor?

In the event the mentee, mentor, or both feel like the relationship is not a match, they should bring this to the attention of the CUYLM Executive Team at CUYLM@cucm.org. The team will assess the situation and provide guidance or resolution.

Who is eligible to apply for this program?

To be eligible, the applicant must be self-driven, willing to commit to the program, employed in the Manitoba credit union system, be 40 years old or under, and be able to obtain a direct manager’s approval to participate in the program.
